Many older women who had their childhood in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s witnessed lots of changes. In the 1950s, many girls were brought up to be good housewives since childhood. Cooking, cleaning, sewing, childcare and other household activities were their primary concerns. The school curriculum was very rigid with strict dress code and etiquette. One TV was common for many families, which was watched by everybody. There were plenty of music, radio, and family discussions.
Growing Up In The 50s, 60s, 70s, And 80s
The 1960s came to bring more progressive thoughts. Young females started thinking more about freedom, education and employment. They witnessed all the transformations that happened worldwide with the help of news, music, and mass media. The 1960s made many of them start asking questions and become more concerned about equal opportunities and rights. The 1970s marked the entrance of more women into college education and employment with a desire to improve their life and provide better future for their families.
New fashion, music and home conditions appeared. Women started being independent. They managed all the activities such as working, marriage, motherhood and money management simultaneously. It was not an easy period, but they became more competent and experienced. The 1980s brought even faster tempo of life and more technic. Females used new machines at work and had to adapt to the constant job transformations. Family life also required much effort and energy because women had to combine their full-time job and housekeeping.

Do you think you could go back to living like we did in the 70s without internet, smart phones, etc..

In 1945, struggles were real but so were the victories, the small wins that kept us going when the world felt heavy.

They call us grandparents, but we're the same souls who once raced down the streets with wind in our hair and fire in our hearts.

Life taught these women patience, since it offered no shortcuts. They had to wait for the mail, telephone calls, and information. They repaired rather than bought. They saved money and were frugal. Such traits have been preserved through the years. Many elderly ladies can recall a period when conversations took place in person more often. They remember family dinners, local stores, school affairs, and many hours outdoors.

We didn't have much, but we had peace. Mornings began with birds, not alarms; and nights ended with conversations, not screens.

I'm not old-fashioned— I'm from the wild days when music was real, love was loud, and weekends felt endless!

1960 to 1970 wasn't simply years on a calendar—it was the pride of a generation that dared to question, dared to fight, and dared to believe we could change the future

We weren't poor in the 60s and 70s — we were resourceful. One bike for five kids, one toy for the neighborhood, and somehow enough joy for everyone

Between 1968 and 1974, life was music, color, and courage — we didn't scroll through moments, we lived them.

Born in the 69s… We grew up before life became a performance. Back then, people lived the moment instead of recording it. Maybe that's why those memories feel so real now. Wholesome yesterday
